School Planning Committee
2011 is a year full of significance and opportunities!
OCCS was formed in 1994 to promote Chinese language and Chinese culture. Its current Bylaw was setup in 2001. The OCCS then and now are dramatically different. With the school enrollment surpassing 600 students, OCCS has faced many challenges brought about by this rapid expansion in school size, yet it is restricted by its existing organization structure to fully embrace the challenges and opportunities. In contrast, other Chinese schools across the US have enrollment in similar size or higher and are thriving.
The many challenges that OCCS is facing are:
- school rental issues
- lack of devoted administrators
- need to increase teaching quality
- lack of long term planning
- unclear school development direction
- expanding student population
- standardization of school operations
- accreditation of Chinese programs
- conformation to applicable regulations
To best address the many pressing issues OCCS faces, the Parent Committee decide to form a School Planning Committee to lead the effort to:
- Study and benchmark successful Chinese schools in the US
- Implement needed changes in OCCS Bylaw
The Committee includes members from the Parent Committee and Administration team, as well as teachers, parents and school volunteers.
To make this endeavor a success and to make OCCS emerge as a stronger community, we need your input!
